Comment on Geek Roundtable: Alien 1979 and Aliens 1986 by Ryan short /2009/geek-roundtable-alien-1979-and-aliens-1986/#comment-25 Mon, 23 May 2011 21:50:00 +0000 /blog/?p=815#comment-25  Aliens is THE best film (alien) to date, and one of the best movies of all time in my opinion.I mean come on, first one was awesome, 3rd one was shit (they killed off Dwayne mutha fuckin Hicks (in a non-heroic way…getting impaled and not going down fighting like all his comrades pfft))…
Alien resurrection brought back the action..  but.   Ripley was long dead, so were all the main characters and their relatives(pvt. Jeanette vasquezes sister etc.) and were replaced by… mercenaries …. and the marines were also long disbanded , to be replaced by stupid soldiers who even with 3000+  soldiers couldn’t kill a few young drones,  my rant is done… thank you

Be warned: The ‘Shape of Things to Come’ segment at the end of the last episode will cause you to regress through the steps all over again. ;)

No Star Trek on TV, or movies in the works. All iterations of Stargate have been shelved indefinitely. The franchises are waning.
It is not a good time for science fiction at all, and it will take a while to recover. More likely it’ll require some sort of new form, a new medium for intellectual programming.
*sigh* How long until holobands?

There are many great eps (and some not so great) but for me it’s 100 % the season 2 episode where ‘someone’ dances with Maddy in the living room. Wink. That’s where everything that’s special about Twin Peaks, the mystery, the emotions, the horror – it all culminates in one haunting and unforgettable TV triumph.

Well put. I remember being taken aback when news first broke about Caprica. When my fanboy squees after reading the words ‘BSG spin-off’ finally receded, I finished reading the headline. The phrase ‘family drama’ seemed to throw me off a little.
Ultimately, one of the best crews in TV made that shit WORK. Style, concept, and intrigue in the setting I didn’t know I wanted.
Also, V-world is frakking amazing. ;)

At the risk of feeding the troll, BSG was by far and away the most original and impressive sci-fi invention of ‘a world’ I have ever seen on television. Caprica was a complex, refreshingly mature, richly detailed and thoughtful elaboration of that world. Moreover, it was its own world too, perhaps too different to the one that spawned it for those who wanted more of the same. I for one will miss going there and buying the ice cream, it tastes nothing like shit.
