Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children

Why I watched it.
1. The trailer alone induced me to stop in my tracks and stare wide-eyed and jaw agape at the animation.
2. No fact here. All fiction and fantasy fiction at that. I wanted to see what that guy from the trailer could do with a 5 foot long sword.
Did it deliver?
1. Most definitely. The trailer (unlike most) barely scratches the surface of some of the action sequences. Highlight for me was the fight in the church (?) between Tifa and the dude with the crazy arm attachment. The movie is basically all action and all over-the-top action to boot.
2. That was one heck of a 5 foot long sword and Cloud put it to good use throughout the movie. Plus there was a guy with a gun for a hand, that crazy monster thing, and what looked to be a cat riding a dog. Plausibility wasn’t an issue because it all looked cool while it was happening.
Should you see it?
I’ve never played Final Fantasy VII (or any other for that matter) but I assume if you have you’ll love this movie. If you’re a fan of Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within you’ll likely enjoy this one as well even though they only have animation style in common. If you enjoy over-the-top action (think Kung Fu Hustle but with a sci-fi/fantasy element to it) then you’ll love this movie.
I was anticipating having no clue what was going on due to my unfamiliarity with the source material. Although the plot is a little convoluted it wasn’t too hard to piece together. That being said I won’t attempt to explain it here.
