What Bjag’s Buyin’

Here’s a recap of my recent movie library additions.

Batman and Batman Returns 2-disc special edition DVDs.

They came out around the release date of Batman Begins along with Batman Forever and Batman & Robin or in a boxset of all four. I didn’t pick them up at the time because the boxset was overpriced and each movie was individually overpriced. Plus I really didn’t want to own the third and fourth installments of the series. Oddly enough there was a significant price drop ($29.99 to $8.99) for Batman and Batman Returns only. By far the best deal I’ve stumbled across recently.

The Tim Burton commentary on each DVD is the highlight (for me) of the vast amount of special features. Vast. Also, for those that care the soundtrack is in DTS.

The Tick vs. Season One

Tick fans had to suffer through the awful live-action show with Patrick Warburton. Then the true injustice came when shortly after it’s cancellation this series was released on DVD but no sign of the animated show’s release.

Finally it’s here. Twelve episodes on two discs. It excludes episode #11 for some reason. The best news is that there is an advertisement within the packaging for season two’s release. Therefore it’s already in the works.

Animaniacs: Volume 1

Amidst a sea of fondly remembered shows that are nothing short of disappointing when viewed now (i.e. G.I. Joe, Transformers, He-Man, etc.) Animaniacs is the exception as it is just as funny if not funnier. An extra bonus is that the price tag isn’t as overwhelming as on those other releases.

*Sidenote*

I can check off the Tick and Animaniacs from my wishlist but I’d still like to see Freakazoid and Earthworm Jim. Freakazoid is a likely candidate as it was the fourth animated show produced by Steven Spielberg for Warner Bros. The others were Tiny Toons which I’d also like to see, Animaniacs, and Pinky and the Brain which had the same DVD release date as Animaniacs. Earthworm Jim was also a Warner Bros. show so that might help it get to DVD as well.

Arrested Development Season 3

I now own seasons one through three which sadly is the entire run of the show. Fox loves cancelling good programming. It’s a strange business model but somehow it seems to be working for them. Thanks muckity-mucks.

Watch this show. You won’t be disappointed.
